About Retford Judo Club

Club History

Retford Judo Club was started by George Woodward on November 24th 1957. In the beginning, The club was held weekly on Sunday mornings at the Riflemans. The club then moved to West Retford but the facilities were not suitable for our needs.

Mr Clark from then offered George the use of the canteen at Clarks laundry and the club stayed there until the laundry was sold in December 1963.

The club re-opened on Tuesday January 7th 1964 at the TA centre, eleven years later, switching to Thursday evenings on May 3rd 1977, and then back to Tuesdays to make allowances for other uses of the TA centre.
