Retford Judo Club Will Be Moving

Retford Judo Club will be moving to a new venue, the first session on 18 April 2012 and 11 April the last session at the TA Centre on Hallcroft Road. The new location will be St Saviours Parish Centre on Lidge Lane, Retford, DN22 6QW. St Saviours is a much bigger space for us and hopefully may give us the opportunity to have extra sessions and host squad training.

Looking back at old documents we moved into the TA Centre from Clark’s Dye Works in 1963, 49 years. In that time numbers of players have varied, from many to a few and back again, at one time getting so low we thought we would have to close the club.

This will be a sad time for a few of the older players who did their training there as children. Lots of memories of players present and past.

The website will be updated with the new location soon.

Success at British Schools Judo Championships

On Saturday 10th March Alice and Ben Skelton along with James Wall attended the British Schools Championships at the EIS in Sheffield. The competition was open to all school children in years 6 to 13 from across the the United Kingdom. In all some 400 children attended and the competition took place over six mats. At the end of their bouts Ben and James were awarded the bronze medal and Alice was awarded the silver medal. They have now been accepted on to the England ExCell programme. Congratulations and well done.

During this month club players have attended competitions and come away with medals.
The Notts closed event 10 July.
Bronze medals went to Emily Hird and Alice Skelton. A gold medal went to Ben Skelton. Congratulations on your well deserved medals.

Bristol invitational competition 17 July.
Ben Skelton was part of the Notts squad boy’s team that took bronze at the Bristol event. Well done Ben.

Ben Skelton has been selected to represent the Notts judo squad at the Bristol Invitational Competition being held on Sunday 17th July. He will be competing in the under 60 Kg’s weight category. Good luck Ben.
